This reason is to keep spammers away. Let's say you're chatting with your friends and some guy shows up and goes, "dfsdfjafnwqeiubfnsdoufbhaBFISDFBASIFDBASDIFB" everywhere. Let's say the Head Honcho isn't on. You would now go to your private chat and leave the spammer be himself.
Trust me, this DOES happen.
